Garden Ministry Sculpture Commission

Call for proposals

Christ Church is soliciting proposals for the creation of an outdoor sculpture to enhance a “Truth and Reconciliation Garden"

Eligibility: open to any artist or art student from the First Nation, Metis, or Inuit community.

What we want: This is a request for written submissions open to any professional artist or art student from the First Nation, Metis or Inuit community. We are looking for a “sculpture” to enhance this garden project. The sculpture should:

  • Modulate the space and add an additional dimension that facilitates reflection on the significance of “the history and legacy of the residential school system and share and honour the experiences of former students and their families”

  • The sculpture could be free standing or could be an embedded in the ground (eg. as a walkway).

  • There should be a plan to ensure that the sculpture is protected from theft.

  • The sculpture should be sufficiently durable to withstand the elements for a minimum of five years.

Dedicated money: $4000

Deadline for proposals: October 30, 2024

The selection process: Proposals will be reviewed by a committee including a Church Warden or Priest, a Garden Committee member, an artist, and an Indigenous person.

Evaluation: Primarily submissions will be evaluated based on how well they match/speak to the intent of the garden (to facilitate reflection on the meaning of “Truth and Reconciliation”).

Winning submission: Will be announced on the Christ Church website (here) on November 25, 2024.

Delivery date: Delivered and installed by February 28, 2025.
