Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matt 19:14)
Jesus holds children and their faith in high esteem. In 2011 Hope Franklin and Linda Hutchison began the ministry of Blankets for Babies to reflect Jesus’ care for children and to emphasize their importance within the church community by reaching out to young families, connecting with them and getting to know them.
When a baby is born to a family at Christ Church
- The family is given a blanket made by the women in the church
- Along with the blanket is a card including a Bible verse and a note of welcome from the ACW. The photo on the card is of the stained glass in the library depicting Jesus and the children taken by George Sled.
- When the baby has older siblings a book is also given to them
By reaching out to the family the ministry seeks to show in a positive way our commitment as disciples of Christ to welcoming children and their families into our community of faith.
Blankets are available to new families in the parish and for children and grandchildren of all parishioners. Donations of handmade knitted blankets are always welcome.
We give thanks for the faith of Linda and Hope who have so willingly shared their time and talent to welcome babies and their families into the church community, for the time and talent of the ladies who create the blankets and for the photography of George Sled which enhances the cards. Please take a moment to speak to Hope to show your support for this important ministry and to find out more.
